CP Appointed Borough Engineer for Historic Juniata Terrace

CP Appointed Borough Engineer for Historic Juniata Terrace

State College, PA – April 1, 2025

CP Engineers is proud to announce our appointment as the official borough engineer for Juniata Terrace Borough, effective April 1, 2025. This partnership marks a significant milestone for both our firm and the community, as Juniata Terrace embarks on a new chapter in its remarkable history.

A Community Steeped in History

Juniata Terrace, recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, stands as a rare and enduring example of an early 20th-century industrial village1. Originally developed in the 1920s by the American Viscose Company to house workers for its rayon plant, the borough’s unique Garden City-inspired design, brick row homes, and central green spaces have been meticulously preserved for over a century1. The borough’s resilience and adaptability have enabled it to survive and thrive long after many similar communities faded from the map1.

Investing in the Future: Infrastructure and Grant Support

Our first major initiative as borough engineer is to help Juniata Terrace secure two ~$500,000 grants through Pennsylvania’s Small Water and Sewer Program, targeting critical infrastructure improvements2. These grants will fund:

  • A comprehensive storm sewer project to enhance flood control and protect historic homes.
  • An infiltration and inflow (I&I) sewer project to modernize the borough’s sanitary system and safeguard public health.

By leveraging Juniata Terrace’s historic status and strong community profile, we aim to maximize grant competitiveness and ensure these vital projects receive the support they deserve3.

Honoring the Past, Building the Future

Serving as borough engineer for Juniata Terrace is more than a professional assignment – it is a privilege. We feel a deep sense of ownership and responsibility in helping preserve the legacy of this unique community while supporting its continued growth and vitality. The story of Juniata Terrace is one of hard work, innovation, and community spirit – a story we are honored to help continue1.

“So many industrial towns did not survive the industrial era. Generations of hard-working residents helped Juniata Terrace to turn many corners through the years, surviving and adapting.”
– Mayor John Wagner
