CP Designing PFAS Treatment Facility for Rockaway Township
Sparta, Parsippany, NJ – July 15, 2025
CP and Rockaway Township – Advancing Water Quality and Community Health
CP Engineers is proud to announce our role in designing a state-of-the-art PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) Treatment Facility for Rockaway Township. This project represents a major step forward in ensuring safe, clean drinking water for residents and businesses, addressing one of today’s most critical environmental and public health challenges.
Why PFAS Treatment Matters
PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” are man-made substances found in many everyday products and known for their persistence in the environment and the human body. In recent years, heightened regulatory standards and improved detection technology have brought PFAS contamination to the forefront for water utilities across New Jersey and the nation.
Health Impact: Exposure to PFAS has been linked to adverse health effects, making their removal from drinking water a top priority for communities.
Regulatory Compliance: New Jersey has set strict maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for PFOS and PFOA, requiring utilities to take swift action when standards are exceeded.
Rockaway Township’s Proactive Approach
After routine monitoring identified PFOS levels above the state standard at the Fox Hills Treatment Facility, Rockaway Township took immediate action. Wells with elevated PFOS were removed from service, and the Township began working with NJDEP and industry experts to develop a long-term solution.
Key Project Highlights
Comprehensive Design: CP is leading the design of a centralized PFAS treatment system at the Fox Hills facility. This will restore water production capacity while ensuring compliance with all state and federal standards.
Innovative Solutions: The facility will incorporate advanced treatment technologies, such as granular activated carbon filtration and other proven methods, to effectively remove PFAS from the water supply.
Community Commitment: The project underscores Rockaway Township’s dedication to providing the highest quality water at the lowest possible cost, with transparency and public engagement throughout the process.
What’s Next
Design in Progress: Our engineering team is finalizing design details to ensure efficient, reliable, and cost-effective treatment.
Construction Timeline: Once design is complete and approved, construction will move forward to bring the new treatment facility online quickly.
Ongoing Communication: CP Engineers and Rockaway Township will continue to keep the community informed at every stage.
